Merry Christmas! How was your holiday? Ours was more low-key (low-keyed? low-keyer?) than expected since our travel plans got cancelled. I had a glorious five-day stretch off work and we were supposed to drive up to Seattle to spend the holiday with my Step-dad’s side of the family, but I woke up with a sore throat on Saturday. Of course. Vacation arrives and so does sickness.
I hoped it was just one of those slept-with-my-mouth-open type sore throats that would fade but it didn’t. It got worse. Then my ears started hurting. Then my head. Then I had crazy cramps on top of everything else. Thankfully Mr. Won’t Run had Madden football to keep him busy (when he wasn’t working) because I was no fun.
I finally started feeling better on Christmas day but not back to 100%, definitely didn’t feel like travelling and didn’t want to get anyone else sick if I was still carrying the germs, so we stayed home by ourselves. I had never decorated for Christmas and we decided not to exchange gifts this year so it didn’t feel like a holiday at all. Other than the cheesy Lifetime / Ion / Hallmark movies. Please tell me I’m not the only one addicted to those silly things!
But come on cheesy movie researchers, do your homework, you don’t *frost* a cake pop like that! You should have called Bakerella, I’m sure she would have been happy to consult.
The one thing I did do is make my very first pot roast. I used The Pioneer Woman’s recipe which has been on my list to try, and I have seen other bloggers and internet friends rave about it so I finally made it and it turned out great! It was really easy to throw together and then it basically cooks itself so there wasn’t much to it. I told that to the Mr. when he was mmmmmm-ing over it and he says I should give myself more credit – I’m still the cook, the oven was just my tool. He’s so sweet. Although I think the sweetness was part of his plan, because then he requested it be made at least once a month. After such sweetness how could I say no?
I’m still not quite 100%, my head still hurts, but I’m almost there. The germs must have been going around this season, so many friends posted about how they or their kids were sick too. I’m hoping we can get up to WA in January for a late Christmas and to celebrate some family birthdays too.
I hope you and your families had a great holiday! Koko wasn’t too thrilled that our holiday included a Santa hat for her.
She’s lucky the dress I bought her was too small, ha!
