Pourable Fruit – put it on everything!

pourable fruit trio 680

You guys… I have a confession… I am so awkward in the kitchen.  So completely awkward.

I remember liking to cook and bake when I was living with college friends (oh so long ago), and also when Mr. Won’t Run and I were newly married (although there may have been a lot of canned soup involved), so I’m not quite sure what happened, but I have a feeling it’s related to small apartment kitchens.  When there isn’t enough storage space or counter space or floor space, you start avoiding the kitchen.  It’s the last place on earth you want to be, and forget trying to get two people in there at once, and especially not two people AND a dog!  This was exactly the problem the last two years when we had the tiniest kitchen ever, but we’ve been in our new place since January and the kitchen is pretty decent for an apartment, but it seems I’ve forgotten everything I ever knew.  We’ll have to work on that.

Oregon Fruit Company has thankfully come to my rescue, and to celebrate their 80th year of business, they’ve re-released the coolest product – Pourable Fruit!

pourable fruit trio

They kindly offered to send me some to try out, and I have to say, it made me feel like a pro in the kitchen.  I love supporting local businesses, and if they can help me in the kitchen it’s a tasty win-win for everyone.  Especially for Mr. Won’t Run.

It worked perfectly when I had a strawberry shortcake craving but didn’t have any strawberries – and even if I did, who wants to slice all those strawberries, right?  They wouldn’t even last long enough around here to get sliced!  And those people who get fancy and cook the strawberries to make a delicious syrup type of topping, yeah, that’s not me.  Reference awkwardness mentioned above.

So, Pourable Fruit to the rescue!  I’d give you this recipe but I don’t think it qualifies as a recipe… pound cake + cool whip + Pourable Fruit.  #tastytrifecta

shortcake trifle

For some strange reason I also had a craving for a margarita one night.  It was a Monday, but I’m sure there’s no correlation.  I googled a few margarita recipes and I think this ended up being something more like a colada.  Or a daquiri.  Or a slurpee.  I don’t really know my cocktail rules, I just know I like tequila, and I think tequila is the defining factor for a margarita, so we’re going to go with that.  Had to add coconut too.

Again, I feel weird calling this a recipe… it’s just equal parts tequila, lime juice, coconut milk, cream of coconut, and Pourable Fruit.  I did 1/2 cup of each + 10 ice cubes and that made about 3 cups.  So, 1 serving, yeah?

margarita 01

So quick and easy, and there are so many things you could use it on or mix it with:

  • on top of ice cream (duh)
  • on top of cheesecake (double duh)
  • on top of pancakes and waffles and french toast (oh my)
  • layered with yogurt and granola (healthy)
  • mix it with cottage cheese and grape nuts (did anyone else eat that in college? so weird)
  • freeze it as ice cubes to dress up champagne (fancy)
  • salad dressings (lettuce eat fruit with our salad)
  • all the lemonades (mmmm, strawberry mint sounds good)
  • endless options with booze (obviously)
  • an italian soda (with a little vodka)
  • a real margarita (not a mutant one like mine)
  • a tequila spritzer (sign me up!)
  • a dipping sauce for some savory sweet summer rolls (yessssss)

Additional info + product highlights:

  • fresh fruit picked at the peak of ripeness from farms around Oregon and the U.S
  • manufactured using a cold process to maintain the vivid flavor and color of the fruit
  • lightly sweetened with cane sugar to enhance the fruits’ natural sugars
  • no high fructose corn syrup (has less sugar per serving than fruit syrup or jam)
  • no artificial ingredients
  • gluten-free
  • non-GMO
  • Kosher
  • 18 oz. bottles in freezer section at 142 Fred Meyer stores across OR, WA, and AK
  • retails for $7.99 MSRP
  • look for it in the freezer section (defrost it in the refrigerator, use it within ten days)
  • it may be under the previous name and packaging (berrst) which you can see pictured here and used in a berry meringue trifle!

And please tell me there are other awkward kitchen ladies out there.  Let’s start a support group.

(Oregon Fruit Products sent me a free 18oz. bottle to try, all opinions are my own.)

Title Nine’s 2015 Fit Fest + Giveaway

This is a sponsored post.  I was invited to a media event which included some fun gifts, including a free bra for me and a free bra for one of my readers who enter the giveaway.  All opinions are my own.  If I didn’t love it and think you would to then I wouldn’t be blogging about it.
* * * * *

I’m pretty sure 99% of my readers are ladies, so if you’re a man, I apologize for this.  Actually, I don’t, because you probably know a lady or two and this post could be enlightening for you and worth sharing with them.

First, let’s get the middle school giggles out of our system: boobs, boobies, melons, jugs, tatas, hooters, globes, airbags, funbags, sweater stretchers, bee stings, laverne & shirley, etc. etc. etc.

Whatever you call them, and as great as they are, they’re pretty darn hard to shop for!  They come in various shapes and sizes, various degrees of symmetry (the big one, the little one), and it can be so difficult to find the perfect bra that meets the elusive trifecta of comfort, coverage, and support.  Most women are also wearing the wrong size and don’t even realize it.  I was a 34B in college and continued buying that size for years until I finally got fitted at Victoria’s Secret and the results came back as 36DD.  DD!  Say what???  I was shocked, but my bras definitely fit better these days.

To add to the drama of finding good bras for everyday wear, the search for the perfect sports bra can be even harder.  Most exercising contains some level of bouncing, or if you’re into yoga/pilates it can contain some body angles that don’t work well when you figure in “the girls” and gravity.  Both of those could deter you from exercising and that’s no good, so the right sports bra makes a world of difference.

Title Nine understands that and wants to help you out!  Started in 1989, this California-based company focuses on “clothes that move for women on the move” and they’re all about form, function, and fun.  After hanging out with the crew at the Portland store last night, I can absolutely confirm that!

FitFest 2015 is happening this spring and summer at locations across the country and includes:

  • Personalized bra fitting advice from a “bravangelist” expert
  • An expanded assortment of bras
  • Bras for sports, work-to-workout, everyday and date night
  • A “Bounce-ath-a-lon” for those who want to put TitleNine’s bras to the test, with stations like hula hoop, jump rope, cup stacking, run around the block, hippity hop ball & burpees

This event is devoted to helping athletes of all levels/shapes/sizes find the perfect sports bra.  One size does NOT fit all, and their Bravangelists are hardcore about making sure you find one that meets your needs.  They know their product, so just give them a size to start with and let them bring you ALL THE BRAS, but be prepared to sweat because trying on sports bras is a workout!  Those suckers are tight, but that’s the whole point.

The gal who helped me was Jamie and she was so great! (She’s also an illustrator, you can check her out here!)  She knew exactly how things should fit and whether or not I should change band size or cup size and which brands/models would work best with my lopsided shape.  You get to know your Bravangelist pretty well, by the end I was just letting her hook my in and out of them because my arms were tired.  Like I said, it’s a workout.  Or I’m just really out of shape which is more likely.

FitFest 2015 is coming to Oregon in June:

June 3-4, 10am- 8pm
Title Nine Portland
1335 NW Kearney Street, Portland

June 10-11, 10am-8pm
Title Nine Eugene
296 East 5th Ave. #229, Eugene

Anyone interested in participating should RSVP at the local Title Nine Retail Location.

Not in Oregon?  No problem, check out www.titlenine.com for a full list of cities and more information.

Here’s the one I ended up with, it’s the Fits-To-A-T by Moving Comfort in Celery Jaquard, I love it!  It’s so comfortable and the straps use velcro to adjust which is genius and works better than you might think.  For some reason I just couldn’t bring myself to post a bra selfie, so I threw my tank over it and I was cool with that.  Even though there’s not much difference in how much of my body I’m showing you, haha! #weirdo

“A pullover style bra with the support of a racer back. It has a clasp in the back so we can dial in the fit. It has hardware-free straps that are adjustable from the front. It has seam-free cups. No wonder it fits to a T. Wide, channeled elastic chest band supports our girls when they’re on the rebound. Bonus: we can actually remove this bra after a workout without calling for reinforcements. Mesh back inserts. Wicking poly/spandex. By Moving Comfort. 32-38 B-DD”

My second favorite was the Booby Trap, also by Moving Comfort.  The one I got retails for $50 and the Booby Trap for $54.  That seems to be a fairly standard price for higher quality sports bras these days.  It’s definitely more than the $15-20 I would usually spend at Target, but you do have to consider that you’re getting what you pay for.  I am very impressed with the quality and I see it holding up (haha–holding up) a lot longer than my cheaper ones.  Just FYI, I noticed on their site that they’re doing free shipping on orders over $50 through 6/21!

Before last night, my only experience with Title Nine was drooling over their catalog, but I had never been in a store and didn’t know much about the company.  Now that I’ve experienced them I’ll definitely be back, and I’ve learned some cool things about them:

  • They’re fun and don’t take themselves too seriously – check out their fun facts and stats.
  • They’re evangelical about women’s participation in sports and fitness activities – that’s what their namesake, Title IX, is all about.
  • They’re earth-conscious and serious about sustainability.
  • They’re involved in their community and generous – check out Starting Block, Bra Brigade, Poster Girls, and Lift Certificate!
  • Their models are “ordinary women capable of extraordinary things” and represent competence, confidence, and joy.  Think you’ve got what it takes to model for them?  Let them know!  No giant wings or diamond studded DDs involved!

Check them out on social media to find out more:

Now for the fun part!!  I don’t do many of these but I couldn’t pass this one up!  Enter now through June 1st and the winner will be announced and contacted on June 2nd.  How to enter?  I’m not good with giveaway widgets so we’re going sweet and simple, you can do one or both of these:

  1. Leave a comment on this post and tell me your favorite way to burn calories!  Or your funniest stuck-in-a-sports-bra story 😉
  2. Tweet this and then leave a  comment here letting me know you tweeted it (you know, just in case there’s a Twit glitch and I don’t get notified over there):
Need the perfect sports bra? Enter to win a #T9FitFest fitting + bra from @TitleNine + @WillRunforPasta… Click To Tweet
The Fine Print: The giveaway is open to anyone in the US and will include a personalized fitting (either in-store or by-phone, depending on location) and one bra.  A winner within driving distance of a Title Nine store will be asked to redeem their prize at the closest/preferred retail location.  A winner NOT near a Title Nine Store, will be sent a certificate to redeem with the call center.

Congratulations to Tenacious Little Terrier!!  You guys, check out this adorable Portland pooch, he’s so cute, and if he can hike Angel’s Rest then I can too!  Right?

Mr. N, tell your human that I’ll be sending them an email shortly!

On a personal note… although you already know my bra size so I’m not sure how much more personal we can get… events like this are a little difficult for me since I tend to be quiet and reserved, especially in larger group settings.  The stronger personalities overwhelm me (I love them though!) and it’s hard for me to jump in, but I think I did pretty well.  I knew there would be a few people I knew, but I’m still proud of myself for showing up alone, approaching new people, chatting them up, and making new friends – maybe even breast friends.

A lot of these ladies are doing giveaways too, up your chances of winning by entering with them as well!

(If I forgot you, let me know!)

Sorry I’m so wordy, thanks for sticking with me :)

Boost A Move

A few months ago when I had the chance to visit the Nautilus Headquarters, they shared that they were launching an activity tracker bracelet of their own and it’s finally out!  They generously provided me with one for review purposes, and here’s what I think so far:

Bowflex Boost

Bowflex Boost

Like most of the trackers out there, the Bowflex Boost is a bracelet meant to be worn all day and it tracks your daily steps, distance, and calories with a free app (just on the iPhone for now but they’re working on one for Android).

What makes this one special?  They do it for a lot less than the competition, just $49.95,

At that price it doesn’t include GPS or a heart monitor, but it does have a sleep setting which tracks your hours slept and your activity levels during sleep.  If you’re waking up tired and have no idea why, this could be very enlightening.

It’s incredibly easy to use, lets you set activity goals, and syncs wirelessly with Bluetooth to the iPhone app.

Throughout the day you can glance at your wrist and get an idea of how you’re doing on meeting your goal.

The app is really fun too and gives you lots of fun info charted out.

I was surprised how it motivated me.  I expected that I’d just go about my usual day with maybe a run in the evening, but it really starts bugging me seeing that red light.  It has also helped me realize that I do NOT move enough during the day, and with all the new reports coming out about how sitting will kill you, this helps me to be more conscious of my time spent sitting vs. moving!

If you’re looking for a way to track some of your fitness goals, I think this is a great way to do it, and at a more manageable price point.  I’m not a “serious” runner yet, still working up to 3.1 miles, so I’m not worried about monitoring my heart rate yet, and I have MapMyRun for GPS, so Bowflex Boost tracks all the other basics I’m looking for.

I’ll share more as I play around with it, I can’t wait to see what I can glean from the sleep cycle.  There are days I just feel exhausted and really don’t know why so it will be interesting to see if I’m really active in my sleep the night before.  Then I can look into how to fix that!

Bowflex also has a new blog called Bowflex Insider where they offer fitness tips and workout videos.  Their focus is healthy living in ALL areas of your life – eating, moving, living, AND playing!

So, stay tuned for more Bowflex Boost posts, and in the meantime, be sure to check out my Portland Blogger friend Kayla who wrote a review too, check it out here.  If you’re a runner you’ll love her, she’s “serious”.

Do you use an activity tracker?  Which one?  What are you most interested in tracking?  Do you find that it helps motivate you?  Geez, 20 questions!

Let’s Get Minted

(Disclaimer: Thanks to the latest sponsor for the Blended Conference that I’m attending in two weeks, this post is sponsored by Minted.  In exchange for a promotional post they are providing me with credit towards free product.  All opinions are my own and I never promote anything I don’t honestly love and think my readers would love too.)

I realize we’re still a week away from the official start of Fall, but thanks to Minted I’m already starting to think about Christmas!  Only 101 days to go!

Minted Christmas Card jolly fa la la

If you haven’t heard of Minted, they’re an online retailer out of San Francisco that specializes in high-end paper goods.  They are most known for their holiday cards, but they also do wedding invitations, birth announcements, wall art, party décor, stationary, business cards, mommy calling cards, etc.  Pretty much anything you could possibly think of!

Minted is unique in that they issue challenges to a design community with 1,000s of indie artists from all over the world.  Those artists send in their submissions which are then voted on, and the winners are selected.  With so many different artists there are more than enough styles to suit anyone’s taste, and if none of them suit yours, well… It’s you, not them!

Just kidding.  Kinda.

Minted 2013 Holiday Challenge Winners

So, back to Christmas cards, I’m really hoping to get ours out on time this year.  In our almost eight years of marriage I don’t think that has ever happened.  I usually procrastinate too long and end up sending New Year’s letters.  Or Valentine’s!

Part of the Minted fun is being able to personalize photos and text and see your proof right there in front of you so you know what you’re getting.  For example, maybe we’ll put Koko on our card like this:

Or maybe not, who knows, there are so many options to choose from!  Bold, Elegant, Funny, Hand Drawn, Minimalist, Modern, Monogram, Rustic, Simple, Vintage… something for everyone:

Minted Christmas Card Brushed Gold Foil Minted Christmas Card Elegant Classic Collage Minted Christmas Card Modern Etched Holiday Minted Christmas Card Rustic Sketchbook Foilage Minted Christmas Card Vintage Photo Booth Minted Christmas Card Chalkboard Quotes

How about those newsletters recapping the year, do you write one of those?  If you don’t, or if you’d rather not, how about just hitting the highlights with these creative cards that are more likely to be read and remembered:

Minted Christmas Card Year in a Nutshell Minted Christmas Card What A Year Minted Christmas Card Our Year Minibook Minted Christmas Card Family Year

If you’re celebrating special events like a new baby, a new marriage, or a new home, you can use your Christmas card to share the special news:

Minted Christmas Card Silentish Night Minted Christmas Card Peace on Earth BannerMinted Christmas Card Married and Merry Minted Christmas Card Framed Address

And they didn’t forget us pet lovers either:

Minted Christmas Card Yappy Holidays Minted Christmas Card Peace Love Yarn Minted Christmas Card Come They Told Me Minted Christmas Card Reinpet

Don’t want photos on your card?  No problem!  They have tons of non-photo holiday cards:

Minted Christmas Card Merry Married Minted Christmas Card Joy to the World Minted Christmas Card Holly Joy Minted Christmas Card Merriest

And did I mention the Corporate Holiday Cards, Holiday Postcards, Holiday Minibooks, and brand new Foil-Pressed Cards?  No?  Consider them mentioned!

If you’re not quite ready to think about Christmas, Minted has you covered until then for Halloween, Diwali, Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah!

Click on over and check them out, you can even get 20% off all holiday cards with the code PREVIEW2013 (expires Mon 9/23).  See all their current coupon codes here.

So what kind of holiday card sender are you?  Picture?  No Picture?  Newsletter?  I like to do the newsletter with pictures because those are the types I most like receiving.  I love seeing our friends and family and hearing about what they’ve been up to.

Action Wipes Review, Discount, and Giveaway! (and dorky pics of me)

(Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this product for free in the hope that I would sample and then review it on my blog. Rest assured, I only recommend products or services I would use personally and believe my readers would enjoy as well.  All opinions expressed are always 100% my own and have not been influenced in any way by the company that provided the products or services. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”)

Action Wipes… for when you play hard and smell strong, haha!

I briefly mentioned Action Wipes in my Day 2 recap of FitBloggin’ and I wanted to take a quick minute and tell you a little more about them and how I got to try them.

Since FitBloggin’ was in Portland this year I could not justify the cost of staying at the hotel when it was just a 20-30 minute drive away.  However, this meant that I would not have time to drive home and shower in between the morning workouts and the conference sessions.

Yes, it’s a fitness conference so a lot of people are in sweaty clothes all day long after those morning workouts.  If I was stinky I knew I wouldn’t be the only one, but for the sake of those who would have to sit by me, I wanted to figure out a way to freshen up if needed.

I came across Action Wipes online and thought they would be the perfect solution!  The only problem was that I could not find them locally and I had waited until the last minute so there was no time to order them.  As a last resort I sent out a Tweet asking if there were any stores near me that carried them:

The company was extremely generous and offered to overnight a box to the hotel, and they sent enough for me to share with other attendees in the same need-to-freshen-up boat.

There are similar products out there, and even baby wipes would get the job done, but what appealed to me most about Action Wipes is their commitment to safe ingredients:

  • No harsh chemicals
  • No drying detergents
  • No carcinogens (Parabens, SLS, etc.)
  • No alcohol
  • No synthetic fragrances

I am doing my best to be an informed consumer, not only about the things I put IN my body, but also the things I put ON it.  Your skin is your largest organ which absorbs way more than you think, and that stuff ends up in your bloodstream.  I loved that these would be a safe solution to my no shower dilemma.

The wipes themselves are 9” x 10” which is almost the size of your standard sheet of paper.  They come in a 12” x 5” multi-pack which contains 30 wipes and would be great to keep in the car or take camping.  They also come in 3” x 5” individual packs like the ones shown above which would be great to keep in your purse or backpack.  The wipes are sturdy too, no falling apart if you have to scrub a stubborn spot.

Squishing the wipe in your hand hand activates the suds, then you just wipe down and air dry.  No rinsing needed, and no sticky residue left on your skin to attract more dirt.  And it smells great!  Yes, it’s strong smelling when you first open the package, but it’s not overly perfumey and it fades to a light, fresh scent.

Yep, that’s me… smelling my pit on my blog… my mom is so proud.

Action Wipes are vegan, gluten-free, never tested on animals, and the company has taken the Truth in Labeling pledge to disclose their ingredients and ensure their products are safe.

They are committed to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and their formulation laboratory is ECOCERT, USDA National Organic Program (NOP) and Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) Certified.

Unless you are allergic to a specific ingredient, I am 100% comfortable recommending this product to anyone!

So what are those ingredients?

  • Water
  • Leuconostoc/Sorbus aucuparia fruit ferment filtrat (preservative derived from the berries of the Rowan shrub)
  • Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate (coconut oil derived emollient, surfactant and preservative)
  • Capryl Glucoside (sugarcane derived surfactant)
  • Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Oil
  • Eucalyptus Radiata (Eucalyptus) Oil
  • Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil
  • Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang) Oil

After you use an Action Wipe, there are tons of ways to repurpose them, check out all the ideas here – gotta love a company with a sense of humor!

If you’d like to try them yourself, the generous people at Action Wipes are giving you a discount code for 25% off your order at ActionWipes.com!  Just enter PASTA25 at checkout, from now through Friday, 7/26/13.

Also… I also have two individually packaged wipes left from my FitBloggin’ stash and I would love to send them to one of you to try!  Leave a comment below and let me know what no-shower situation you would use Action Wipes in.  Comment through this Saturday, 7/13/13, and I’ll announce the random winner on Sunday, 7/14/13.

If you’re still not sure how you could use them, check out the endless possibilities here!

These are definitely going in our Doomsday Prepper Kit!

Edited 7/13/13

Since this is my first giveaway, I have no idea how to do it all fancy-like, so here’s a photo I took with my phone of what I got on random.org.  I’ll be fancy and high-tech one day, right?

Congrats to Holly!!
