I’m Having a Love Affair

With Rosemary.

Rosemary Clooney?

No.  Well, yes.  I mean, it’s December, aren’t we all a little moon-eyed for her?

I’m talking about the herb though, that beautiful buttery Rosmarinus Officinalis.  Did you know it’s actually part of the mint family?  Wikipedia told me so.  Apparently it’s also a symbol of remembrance and love.  Now I like it even more.

I’ve always loved it, but a co-worker brought it in to work this week – one of those small bushes they shape like a Christmas tree – and I just can’t get enough.  I went out that same day and bought one for myself.  It smelled so good in the car that I broke off a sprig and stuck it in the vent.  Why have I never thought of doing that before?

I also maaaay have rubbed it on my wrists like perfume.  Is that weird?  Nevermind, don’t wanna know.

To feed this escalating obsession, I made Pioneer Woman’s Pot Roast the other night for dinner which just so happens to call for rosemary.  Our little apartment smelled amazing!

Living in an apartment building, there are some evenings that we come home and when the elevator doors open to our floor we’re knocked over by the drool-inducing aroma of someone’s dinner.  It’s extremely difficult not to sniff our way down the hall to figure out where it’s coming from and then knock on the door to invite ourselves in.  Well, that drool-inducing aroma was coming from our place for once, confirmed by Mr. Won’t Run who walked in the door and said “HAVE YOU SMELLED THE HALLWAY?!!”.  I earned bonus wife points for dinner that night.

I’ve actually considered giving in to my sniff/knock/eat fantasy, I mean, how big of a compliment would it be to have someone knock on your door because your food smells so good, right?  Unless you’re a single girl, then it might be a little scary, even if the dude is good-looking.  That might be a meet cute in a Hallmark movie, but in real life it’s asking to be murdered.  At least invite the guy back (talking through the door of course) at a later date when you can plan to have your friend hiding in the closet with mace for backup.

I know, my mind is a strange place, I’m blaming the rosemary high.

Do you have an herb you’re obsessed with?  Obsessed like a cat is obessed with catnip?  Share your crazy so I know I’m not alone.  Please.

I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow

Snow.  Snow.  Snow.  Snoooooooow.
Little ol’ snowflakes, Eskimo pie; chocolate and vanilla for you and I.

If you have any idea what I’m talking about, then I think you’re pretty awesome!

Speaking of snow, have you seen Portland lately?  I am so not built for this kind of cold.  19 degrees but it feels like 7.  And I have to walk the dog.

Must Watch All The Shows

Is anyone else embarrassingly excited for Fall TV premieres?  My DVR is quaking in fear!

I love seeing all the new shows that come out and am often surprised at the ones that get picked up over the ones that get cancelled.  Then there are the shows I already love from past seasons and they’re FINALLY coming back.

So, let’s break it down!

~ ABC ~

TV Castle

On the fence, will give these an episode or two:

  • The Goldbergs – Who doesn’t love the 80s?
  • Super Fun Night – Rebel Wilson is hilarious so hopefully this is written well.
  • Trophy Wife – Bradley Whitford, Malin Akerman, Marcia Gay Harden.  Yes. Yes. Yes.

~ CBS ~

TV Big Bang Theory

TV Dracula

Returning favorites:

Most excited for these new shows:

    • The Blacklist – I’ll watch anything James Spader does!
    • Dracula – Vampires.  No other reason needed.
    • Ironside – Hello Blair Underwood!  I’m also happy to see Spencer Grammer from Greek in something new – oh, and she’s Kelsey Grammer’s daughter.  Smartypants here just figured that out, ha!
    • The Michael J. Fox Show – Michael J. Fox.  No other reason needed.  He ranks up there with vampires.
    • Sean Saves The World – Sean Hayes is hilarious and I’m glad to see Megan Hilty on a new show after Smash was cancelled too soon.
    • Welcome to the Family – I was going to pass on this one but then I watched the full trailer and it looks really funny.  I like Mike O’Malley from his “Yes, Dear” days as well as Kurt’s Dad on Glee, and I’m glad to see Mary McCormack from In Plain Sight in something new as well.

Whew!  I think that’s all.

Oops, can’t forget Haven on Syfy that just returned last week, love that show!  If you think you don’t like science fiction, or if you think Syfy only does shows like Sharknado, you should check out Haven!

See, I told you I was ridiculous.  Like really ridiculous.  I have the shows listed out with their premiere/return dates on my phone and I have already set recordings as far out as the DVR will go.  Someone please tell me I’m not the only one that does this!

Contrary to the evidence presented here, I swear my life does NOT actually revolve around television.  I can go days without even turning it on, but during premiere weeks it gets a little out of control.

I know.  I’m shaking my head too.

Do we love any of the same shows?  What are you most excited for this Fall?

The most important rule of dog-walking in Oregon

Bring your rain coat.

Even if you don’t think you’ll need it.

Basically from Mid-September thru May.

I took Koko out recently on one of those the-weather-can’t-make-up-its-mind days and I left the coat at home. Big mistake.

We walked out and looked left – beautiful!

Then looked right – not so beautiful.

The clouds looked a little ominous but I figured we’d beat the rain before it moved in.  Basically I was too lazy to walk back up to the apartment for a jacket “just in case”.  And two seconds later the sprinkling started.

We made it almost all the way around our loop before it started to sprinkle harder.

And then a little harder, going from the sprinkle category to full on rain.

And a little harder (I wish that was a UFO and not a “something” on my phone lens!).

And then we moved from the rain category to a full on downpour / dumping / drenching.

Koko didn’t seem to mind though, she just shook it off and kept going.

Weather: 1     Sarah: 0

Lesson learned.

Abe Lincoln and Inspiration

I like to walk the dog.  Most of the time.

It’s good for her, it’s good for me, and on occasion it’s good for my wallet.

I wasn’t really feeling the walk tonight but of course it has to be done, and usually the reward is seeing Koko’s happy frolic, but tonight it paid in a more tangible way.

“Cash is king” after all!

So, confession… I just spelled paid “payed” and it seriously took me ten seconds of looking at that red underline to figure out what the heck was wrong.

It’s been one of those days.

Koko and I have our usual loop that we walk which is just about a mile and a half.  Tonight, we got to our first poop-drop-box and there was this adorableness:

I thought “oh, how cute” and was about to walk on and then decided I would take one.

Why not, right?  Couldn’t hurt.

I decided on inspiration.

I could really use some of that.

The 9-5 kinda sucks it out of you.

I’m having one of those down weeks.  Seems to happen about once a month, haha!

This ankle issue isn’t helping either.  No running = no natural endorphin pick-me-ups.

Where do YOU find inspiration?
